Love2Learn

Love2Learn is a program dedicated to helping teachers to teach and learners to learn, particularly at schools where the very basic resources are missing. We mobilise our network of teachers, donor schools, corporate sponsors and volunteers to provide little things that make a big difference in a young school-child’s life.

Each term has a theme that is carried out by the donations collected and distributed. The themes are also hooks for conversations about generosity, responsibility and economic divisions in society. Donor schools are encouraged to interact with the recipient facilities by delivering donations and spending time with the younger learners.

Term 1: Back2School Stationery drive

January- March

Term 1 is an exciting time of the year and while we sharpen our pencils to get down to the business of learning there are schools where pencils are a shared resource. Stationery supplies help teachers and learners to get on with the business of learning.

Term 2: Warmth2Kidz Blanket drive

April - July

Few schools have heating, and in winter young learners battle cold and wet conditions without as much as a blanket to keep them warm. Besides the obvious discomfort, absenteeism due to illness negatively affects learning. An own blanket is a precious posession for a young learner.

Term 3: Cool2BeKind

August - September

The message of the Cool2BeKind Workshops are never more relevant than on International Peace Day in September. In the third term learners at both donor schools and recipient facilities are encouraged to talk about Kindness and to think about how their actions affect their communities.

Kindness finds expression in empathy with friends, gentleness towards animals, care about the environment, and love for oneself.

On International Peace Day we encourage groups of learners to convene and take a stand against violence. They do this by observing a minute of silence, followed by a minute of loud noise as we find our combined voice against violence.

Term 4: Giving and Receiving

October - November

In the fourth term we think about the joys of giving and receiving. Giving is not restricted to those that have many material posessions. Gifts of gratitude, friendship and even a smile are rewarded with joy. Recipient facilities - having been at the receiving end of donations all year - are encouraged to explore ways of giving back, whether with a song, cards or a photograph for their partnered donor school.

Donor school also have the option to participate in our Santa Shoebox Project if the wish.
